No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
