NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
