No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
