NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
