NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved betting on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played many hours and don’t win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could boost his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus more on the game.

The actual advancement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would often play against one another. He had access into several of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. He used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best women players the poker world ever. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in cash games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
