The Background of Poker Chips

Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied range of materials in an almost infinite selection of variations since the creation of wagering and the need to track winnings. The most commonly seen materials employed today in the creation of current poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the original of the bunch, have been made in the US since the late 19th century.

Back in the 1800s, poker players appear to be using any small object with value imaginable. Early poker players occasionally employed rough gold pieces as well as chips – normally made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to play a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips were given up to chips with engraved slits to hold them neatly stacked with each other.

There is little or no doubt that poker has gotten bigger constantly in appeal since its origin in the 19th century. With the explosive growth of net gambling and unique television shows, community interest in poker has accelerated a lot faster than ever before. Many people are initially introduced to poker by TV showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and many will participate in their initial hands on the web. Despite net poker’s rise, nothing competes with the feeling of mixing heavy poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a poker table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
