No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
